Work in a group to design, build & code your own smart seaweed farm using the Climate Action Kit. Think about what features your farm needs to help protect ocean animals while growing healthy seaweed. How could your model help a Seaweed Farmer or Aquaculture Technician?

Step 1

Look up different examples of seaweed farms.

What do real seaweed farmers do to keep the seaweed and nearby animals safe? How could you add these ideas to your project?

Step 2

Decide what features your seaweed farm will have. Choose the building blocks, sensors, and craft materials you will use. Think about how your farm will detect animals and send alerts.

Step 3

Build your model, then connect it to Microsoft MakeCode to add code.

Step 4

Test and debug your solution until it works the way you want.

SUCCESS CRITERIA

I can build a smart seaweed farm model that:

  • uses sensors to detect when an animal gets tangled in the farm ropes
  • sends alerts using sounds, lights, or radio signals

Don’t feel limited by this. You can add more features if you would like! For example, think about what sensors could help make sure the seaweed has everything it needs to grow well.
