Every day, we throw away things like food scraps and leaves. When this waste goes to landfills, it doesn’t break down well and can harm our planet. But there’s a better way to take care of this waste that helps the Earth: composting!
In today’s lesson, we’ll explore how composting works, why it’s good for the Earth, and how we can use technology, like solar-powered compost tumblers, to make composting even better. Then, we’ll build our own composting prototype!

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
The SDGs are 17 goals created by the United Nations to make the world a better place.
Composting can help us reach several important goals. With composting, we can:
- Improve soil health, which helps us grow lots of food so that everyone has enough to eat.
- Reduce waste by recycling organic materials and turning them into something useful!
- Help fight climate change by reducing the harmful gases made when organic waste is left in landfills.
- Keep our ecosystems healthy!
