Create your own SODIS timer in 3 main steps:

icons of 3 building blocks (cube, corner connector, and short frame)

Step 1

Build the SODIS timer by attaching your micro:bit to a water bottle.

Icons of code blocks.

Step 2

Add code to bring it to life.

Icons of a pencil, a thought bubble with a code block, and a wrench.

Step 3

Modify the timer’s code to learn how it works.

SUCCESS CRITERIA

I can:

  • build a SODIS timer using the micro:bit
  • tinker with pre-written code to learn how it works
  • explain how to use a variable and conditional statement to track how long a water bottle has been in the sun
  • write my own conditional statement to indicate when the water is safe to drink
  • create two new variables to ensure the timer works well on cloudy and sunny days
