This video covers how to use the Climate Action Kit simulators in MakeCode and how to troubleshoot if they’re not appearing.

By adding the Forward Education extension to MakeCode and pairing your micro:bit, you can see a virtual representation of the components that are plugged into the Climate Action Kit Breakout Board. This way you can see in real time how a component reacts when you interact with it.

Climate Action Kit Simulators in MakeCode Overview

The video also walks through a couple troubleshooting tips if your simulators aren’t showing up:

  • Add the Forward EDU Extension to MakeCode. Check out our tutorial for assistance: Adding the Climate Action Kit Extension for Open-Ended Coding
  • Make sure the Breakout Board is on and is charged
  • Make sure the USB cable is in the micro:bit, not the Breakout Board
  • Make sure only one MakeCode session is open
  • Try a different USB Port on your device
  • Try downloading the code again
  • If your micro:bit has stalled, disconnect the USB cable, turn the breakout board off, and disconnect the micro:bit from the breakout board. Then plug it all back in.
  • Re-pair the micro:bit
