Our forests are an essential ecosystem that protect our planet from the impact of climate change. In today’s lesson, we’ll learn about the importance of forests and how they contribute to the health of our planet.
Then, we’ll learn about how deforestation, and how reforestation efforts can restore these lost habitats.
Finally, we’ll build our own tree seeder prototype using the Climate Action Kit!
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
The SDGs are 17 goals created by the United Nations to make the world a better place. This lesson is connected to Goals 2, 13, and 15.
As we build our tree seeders, consider these questions:
- What role do forests play in providing sources of food, medicine and livelihoods for people in surrounding communities?
- How do you think deforestation affects our ecosystem, especially as it relates to carbon dioxide in our atmosphere?
- How do you think deforestation affects animals and biodiversity that call forests home?
