A low-power USB device, such as Forward Education’s breakout board, a USB light bulb, or a small USB fan. Avoid devices that draw a lot of power like smartphones, as your mini solar panel won’t be able to charge them.
Build
First, let’s set up your solar panel and connect it to your chosen USB device.
Test
Now that your setup is ready, let’s experiment and see how your solar panel works!
Bright Light:
Place your solar panel directly under a bright light source (e.g. under a sun lamp or direct sunlight).
Observe your load device: Does your USB light turn on brightly? Does your fan spin quickly?
Dim Light:
Move your solar panel to a dimmer area (e.g. in partial shadow).
Observe your load device: What happens to the light or fan? Does it dim, slow, or stop?
