Smart Farming Data Collection

Develop mini smart farm to better serve cities and food deserts. This system automatically gauges soil moisture using the moisture sensor to adjust water delivery via the pump to plants and employs LED lighting for growth enhancement. Students can alternate between two growth settings by pressing the A or B buttons on the micro:bit. Additionally, pressing the micro:bit logo displays the timer number.

Big Idea

In this course, you’ll explore sustainable farming solutions and discover how to grow food in an eco-friendly way. You’ll learn about irrigation systems and vertical farming, and how they’re changing the way we produce food. It’s an exciting opportunity to understand the importance of sustainable agriculture and its benefits, as well as the challenges we face. You will also learn how to collect data and why it is important to growing. Get ready to embark on a fascinating journey into the world of farming!

Take Action!

In the “Take action” section of this lesson you will demonstrate your technical and creative skills. You will design and build an automated irrigation system for smart farming. Our smart farm will have two different growing settings, and keep data an on many times the smart farm needed to watered.

The goal of this project is to understand how smart farming works, and build your own prototype system!
